A warm hello to all BP members and friends! In this little newsletter I'm deputising for Martin Barbary, our new Communications Vice-President - with his current job as writer-director of 'LOVIN' THAT TOUR, now in rehearsal, Martin has asked for a hand. Though - as you see - I am not blessed with the skills of retiring President and Newsletter Editor, Jack Curtiss, I'll do my best to fill the breach ('dear friends'!) in the meantime.

THANKS and WELCOME
So it is that I extend the sincere thanks of the Players to Jack Curtiss and Janis Lindbergs, two outgoing Board members who have contributed in many ways to our group over several years. Janis has not only acted, worked on Front of House and in set-building, he has also offered much sage input at Board meetings and been a tonne of support for his dear wife, Kay, in her work as past (and acting) President of the group. Jack, of course, has been an absolute genius in publicity and Newsletter editing, and also put in 'heaps' as President and faithful attendee on many working-bees at Blackwood 21. Many thanks and our best wishes to Jack and Janis in 'retirement' but of course we hope to see them at our shows and functions in the future.
Incoming Board for 2010 - 2011 was elected by BP membership at our February AGM. Congratulations and welcome to: President - Cherie Furniss, Vice-President (Communications) - Martin Barbary, Vice-President (Administration) - Saskia Roche, Treasurer - Rob Smith, Financial Secretary - Cheree Barrett, Secretary (Recording) - Geoff Hastwell, Secretary (Correspondence) - Cherie Furniss  and Board Members - Jenny Dupont, Kay Lindbergs, Debbie Hutchinson, Steve Purvis, Rosie Read, Chris Sharp and Neil Waller. Kay is to be congratulated on her role as back-up Chair from late last year when Jack stepped down from the President's position with health concerns and TASA commitments. All the best to our new Board in keeping BP happy and healthy for the current year and many more to follow.

'LOVIN' THAT TOUR'

If you remember having loved 'Lovin' That Cruise' in 2008, you'll no doubt be looking forward to its sequel 'LOVIN' THAT TOUR', opening on JULY 8 this year. Writer-director Martin Barbary tells me that early rehearsals have been happy, energetic, and getting right into polishing the new all-singing, all-dancing and all-laughing '...Tour'. Again we'll see the misadventures of Mr Figjam and his assorted relatives and cohorts as they attempt to make a killing in the tour business - this time not on a cruise ship, but on a tour bus. Martin has very carefully written roles for most of the gang from 'Cruise', with tonnes of the riotous stage business and carry-on from the earlier musical. My simple tip is: DON'T MISS THE BUS! Tickets are at a very reasonable $22, $18 concession and $15 members /parties of ten or more.  Advance reservations on 1300 658 522 or on the BP website - www.blackwoodplayers.asn.au
Keep an eye on newsletters for info on progress and to see how YOU can help with working-bees, tasks for the show,  etc. ALL help is most welcome and very much valued.

'NAUGHTY MARIETTA'
Is the latest show of SALOS, opening very soon at the Goodwood Institute (or Mayfair Theatre) near the Capri Cinema on Goodwood Road. Our stalwart BP member Garth Robson is taking part and tells me that it's shaping up beautifully. DATES: April 15th - 18th, with 2pm matinees on Sat 17 and Sun 18. TICKETS: $20, $18, with matinees $18. BOOKINGS on 8294 6582.

TOM ANDERSON

Has been a much appreciated and dedicated BP (and Life) member for many years. He's asked me to give a big hello to all BP members and friends from his 'possie' at the Christies Beach Residential Care Home at 50 Gulfview Road, Christies Beach. Tom is bearing up well and is always thrilled when visitors drop by with news and a friendly word. He's in Room 31 and will certainly appreciate your visit if you have a moment.

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING
To be held at 7.30pm THURS MAY 20th at Blackwood 21 to put final touches on our Constitution! Won't be very long or onerous, but any changes to the Constitution have to be ratified by the membership. Speaking of which - MEMBERSHIPS ARE NOW DUE!  Ring Treasurer Rob Smith (8178 0488) or - better still - send your cheque for $25.00 to PO Box 55 Blackwood. You then have membership to JUNE/JULY 2011!
